Almost On Track and Important PSA

Today's Mascot: Grunting Running Guy!
I'm 110 words short of on track for Camp NaNo, but I'm tired and my brain hurts. I just wrote a scene that actually made my heart start to race. I have never experienced that before. Of course it could be because it is so late and I need to go to bed, but I am going to go with it was an exciting scene.

PSA: It's hard to breath hot chocolate. The oxygen content is just not sufficient and you will be hacking up a lung for a while. Which is not only very distracting while you are trying to write, but wakes up small children. Also, when it's piping hot the burning sensation lasts longer. You have been warned.

How do you know when you've really gotten into a current work in progress? What do you like to do to your characters to get your heart pounding? Make sure you leave a comment to say hello. Don't forget to let me know where you are visiting from so I can follow you back and see what you're up to.

ROW80 July Goals Rundown

1. Write at least 800 words per day on my Camp NaNo novel The Most Magical Place.
I am very proud of myself for making my goal of at least 800 words every day even though I really didn't want to do it any more and was mega frustrated on Wednesday evening. Some arguing with my husband to get him to take the little one to play outside was a huge help.

2. Post for every ROW80 check-in.
Still on target for this goal. So far I haven't missed one.

3. Spend 1 Pom per day visiting ROW80 friends.
I had been doing more than 1 pom of visiting, but I only made it to see 4 people. There were a few people I normally check in on that I missed. I hope you all had a very productive week.

4. Post to Twitter every day.
Refining this goal to be posting on Twitter when I blog. I will still check it out when I can, but I am not going to pressure myself to do this right now. I am not getting it done anyway and I need not to be stressing over stuff that isn't as important to me. So we are moving right along!

    1. Yes, trying to stay on track without getting burned out is my eternal struggle.

  2. Glad to see you’ve got your writing-mojo back. Sometimes it’s just a matter of pushing-through your blocks, even when you’re uninspired. It usually takes me about ten minutes of junky writing before my Muse joins in to save the day. After that, we’re in the “writer’s zone” — tappity-tap-tap!

Ah yes, those heart-pounding exciting scenes. Those are the best. String a couple more of those together and you’ve got your readers hooked. For scene writing practice, I like to take my beloved characters and force them into dangerous situations, just to see if I can write my way out of it. I’ll admit, when I threw my favorite hero and heroine into the villain’s crocodile pit, my heart was pounding as I wrote it. I feared for their safety and your readers should too.

Thanks for the hot chocolate PSA warning. Waking small children can be detrimental to your concentration. Invest in some earplugs for maximum concentration. Guaranteed to tune-out those adorable little distractive darlings. =)

    1. Ear plugs are a good idea to tune out loud snores from the other room, but don't help when little people are poking you in the ribs and tapping your shoulder.

  3. Yay for getting back on track! I knew you could do it. I love getting lost in a scene and the heart pounds or tears start rolling. You know you've written some powerful stuff :) Battle scenes always do that to me. Writing the cannon scene in Outlaw Born my heart was racing for Ben and his men. To add to your PSA Green Tea is not a good substitute for oxygen either :P lol

  4. Getting back on track when life is stressful and busy is SOOO hard. Hooray for not giving into the flump and coming back strong.

And I will definitely keep that in mind about hot chocolate. I'd heard it could be dangerous....

  5. I know I am into a story when the character or characters start telling me things when I am NOT writing.

Glad to hear you are back on track. sometimes those hiccups will yield more productive days afterward. Glad that your husband could take the little ones one so you could write.

Here's to an awesomely productive week and a fantastic finish to Camp NaNoWri
    Mo for you!! ~hugs~

  6. Way to go on the goals! That's great. Also, thanks for the breathing hot chocolate tip. I'm making a note.

I haven't written any scenes that have made my heart race. I've written scenes that make me really happy and excited because I love the way they came out. And I've written some scenes that came out of no where and caught me by surprise. I'm still waiting for the pounding heart.
