A is for Aspiring Author

Today is the first day of April which releases The Blogging From A to Z Challenge. I have been trying to get ready for a while now, but as per usual it's go time and I am still trying to get ready. I'm sitting down to write this post and am still not really sure exactly what I'm doing. I did find this really cool article about 10 Safe April Fools Pranks. I think they are hilarious, but best of all they won't hurt anyone. It's just good fun. I probably should have been using my time more productively, but sometimes you just need a break.

A is for Aspiring Author. I always wanted to be an author. I guess it runs in the family. When my dad passed away we found lots of books on how to become a writer among his things. Sadly we didn't come across anything he wrote himself. I am not even sure he ever got to the point of writing. It's a big scary leap! So here I am an aspiring author. I have put a lot of work into my story already and haven't even really started writing.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed because I signed up for so many things none of which I've completed in the past. However, I am also feeling excited because everything has come together in this month. Besides A to Z, I am jumping into Camp NaNo. It's also the first Wednesday of the month making it time for the Insecure Writers Support Group. There are so many amazingly supportive and knowledgeable people bouncing around in these challenges. It makes me hopeful that I will find the help and support I need to make it across the finish line, all the finish lines. Please drop me a supportive comment and let me know where you're visiting from, with a link if you can, so I can follow you back and cheer you on as well. We will get through this together and come out better and stronger because of it.

A is also for Attractive protagonist. Do you tend to write your protagonist with above average appearance? I actually can't recall reading a book where the protagonist was not handsome unless it was a major aspect of the plot. For example Beauty and the Beat, Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Spell For Chameleon and so on. All of mine tend to be smokin' hot and randy. Maybe it's because I like to read stories with a strong romance plot even if it's subordinate. I'm not sure if this is a problem or something that just is. What do you think?

PS: There actually was an awesome article about 10 Safe April Fools Pranks and I swear this one will not get you cheezy Eighties music. So click with confidence and happy April Fools.

  1. Great post! I've ready many books with the make your panties melt handsome alpha male. I've written a few of those too lol. I have read and written a few also with handsome but not rival the gods looks. I'm attracted to those 'average guys' I think because they are more realistic. It seems like most romances though go for the beef :D

    1. Yea, I am now seeing the little old lady from the Wendy's commercial yelling, "Where's the beef!"

  2. I don't think of my protagonists as smokin' hot, but they are certainly not ugly. I don't like a character who is too beautiful; just makes things too simple for them I guess.

You have a lot going on this month. I am taking a much needed break in April. I always have a writing goal in mind, but almost always fail due to reading, or other procrastination things. Slowing down is good sometimes though. So is revving up and tackling everything you can. I suppose it is just a writer's thing to be too busy or not busy enough. We thrive on it, yeah?

    1. I never thought of it making things too easy for the character. Good luck on your break, I always have trouble slowing down.

  3. Hi IDM! I'm visiting as an IWSG host today, and it's fun to meet you. You certainly have a lot on your plate this month! What you wrote about your father really resonated with me. My father died in 1984, and I really, really miss him, especially as I am working on a memoir with his letters from 50 years ago as my main resource. I wish that you could have found writing of his! Good luck with your writing. I have a feeling that you don't give up easily!

    1. Having letters from your father is an invaluable treasure. It is funny that you say that I don't seem the type to give up easily. I usually have a giant melt down and swear that I'm completely done FOREVER, but in the morning I'm trying to figure it out again. Thanks for the reminder that I don't quit.

    1. I am thinking I need to look into systems to help procrastinators get moving. There has to be some tips and tricks out there. Or did I just find something to procrastinate from doing other things.
